The Neotoma Paleoecology Database can be used with students of all levels to:
- Introduce people to the value and use of databases for the exploration of larger scientific problems.
- Place information from a single site, single species, single proxy type, or individual constituent database into a broader context — for example: species extinctions and responses of species to past global climate change.
- Demonstrate how the recent fossil record provides critical information about the changing states of biological systems during the large and rapid climate changes of the past.
