The Neotoma Paleoecology Database can be used with students of all levels to:

  1. Introduce people to the value and use of databases for the exploration of larger scientific problems.
  2. Place information from a single site, single species, single proxy type, or individual constituent database into a broader context — for example: species extinctions and responses of species to past global climate change.
  3. Demonstrate how the recent fossil record provides critical information about the changing states of biological systems during the large and rapid climate changes of the past.
